Portland Formed March 2004 The product: Software that allows organizations to track work done by employees on their computers and record time spent on each application or document. The data can be used for billing and to increase efficiency and productivity. What stage? Early sales. Price: $35 to $100 a month, per seat. The founders: Dan Biggs, 64, chief executive, was a Portland producer of feature films, made-for-TV movies and corporate communications programs. He was chairman of the Portland Art Museum from 1988 to 1991. Reed Fisher, 63, chief technology officer, lives in Los Angeles, where he focused on marketing, advertising and technical development for Fortune 500 companies Employees: 20, with four in the United States and the rest in India. Where they work: The company uses the PSU Accelerator in Portland as its headquarters but has no office there. U.S.-based employees work out of their metro-area homes. Those in India work in a 1,500-square-foot office in an industrial park in Pune. The idea source: Fisher and Biggs, friends for years, concluded that there was no good way to automatically track work. They started the company and brought in as principals Eugene Hill, a former assistant treasurer at Tektronix, now a board member, and Vin Sathe, now the company's chief software architect. The money:* $1.5 million so far from the founders, friends and family. Seeking to raise an additional $2 million from private investors and venture capital companies. Biggs' dream: "To significantly increase efficiency of companies and government agencies." Biggs' fear: "We won't be able to manage our growth."
